The Economy Of Britney Spears

The headline grabbed me.

An economy grows around Britney Spears

Wow. Cities have economies. States have economies. Countries have economies. Is Britney Spears really getting that big?

In the days after the Britney Spears soap opera rode a police-escorted gurney to its apex, celeb-mag sales spiked, traffic jammed gossip Web sites, tabloid TV ratings rose and paparazzi photo prices surged.

For a growing number of people and businesses, Britney’s saga is about money: Every time she sinks to new lows, cash flows. And these days, no one is above the fray.

When a custody dispute devolved into a three-hour standoff at Spears’ home Jan. 3, police officers and firefighters were pressed into duty. Television stations sent up helicopters, and cable news anchors reported the unfolding drama in real time. The Associated Press had two reporters working the story, with editors on both coasts updating it seven times throughout the night.

As long as she keeps acting the way she has, she will be a great money-maker for someone. Heck, she could straighten up tomorrow and they will still be making money off her for years because of what she has done in the past and people would still be able to afford hdtv’s, a notebook computer, and maybe even a car from the profits of selling her photos.

Tuesday Train Wreck - Angelina Jolie

Some people think she’s knocked up. Me? I wouldn’t want her knocking on my door, that’s for sure.

People say women do crazy things when they are pregnant. Maybe she is.

Monday Memory - Polly Holliday

Who doesn’t remember Florence Jean Castleberry? I mean, come on, she is only one of the most popular characters ever portrayed on television.

Flo was portrayed by the very talented, Polly Holliday. In addition to playing Flo on Alice and her own spinoff of the same name, Polly has also been in numerous movies and appeared in episodes of The Golden Girls and Home Improvement.

I miss hearing her telling Mel to kiss her grits. Man, those were the days. So what’s she up to now?

Rehearsing For What?

How sad is it that you have to rehearse your lines for an awards show? Doesn’t he look like he should be selling Winter Park real estate or something?

You’re never too big to rehearse.

Tom Cruise was among the stars who stopped by the Shrine Auditorium Saturday to run through lines for Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards — the only show during Hollywood’s strike-subdued awards season that’s sure to have an A-list turnout.

Clad in a black blazer with a matching turtleneck and jeans, Cruise chewed gum and joked with stagehands as he practiced his lines in front of an audience of stand-ins and seat-saving placards.

I guess it’s the only time he has a chance to see his big fat head on monitors all over the theatre without too many people laughing at him, I suppose.

Freaky Friday - Beauty & The Beast

Holy mackerel. What the hell is up with Victoria Beckham? I can see wearing a toga, like Eva is doing, but what the heck is that supposed to be on Victoria? The straps on that copper thing covering her “assets” makes it look like she is wearing a couple of car spoilers or something. I think I need my eyes checked, now they look more like copper coated air bags.

Head on over to Celebrity Smack to help name that Super Duo.

Hilarious Spoof!

Jerry O’Connell does a great job spoofing the nut known as Tom Cruise.

HaHaHa! I wonder how long he studied that laugh.

Heath Ledger, Gone Too Soon

It appears that Heath Ledger ’s death may have been an accident. I know the family always wants to believe the best when a relative dies, but we know nothing, and have nothing, to suggest that he didn’t die from an accidental overdose.

Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger, 28, has died of a possible drug overdose involving sleeping pills in New York, police have confirmed.

The actor was sick with pneumonia when he died, the TMZ.com website reports, saying it had been contacted by representatives of Ledger’s family, who said they’d been told by police that the actor’s death was accidental.

The representatives said the family was particularly distraught over media speculation that he may have taken his own life.

Too many good stars die young, whether through accidents or suicide, and this is yet another incident of someone dying before their time.

Rest In Peace, Heath.
