While we all hoped this wouldn’t happen, it now seems it was inevitable.

Reese Witherspoon is on her way from Legally Blonde to legally single.

The Oscar winner has formally separated from Ryan Phillippe after seven years of marriage, their publicists confirmed to E! News.

“We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate,” read a statement from the couple’s camp. “They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time.”

No divorce papers have been filed, though TMZ.com reports that Witherspoon has contacted Hollywood wives’ go-to attorney, Robert Kaufman. The split specialist has previously represented Jennifer Aniston, Roseanne and Lisa Marie Presley in their high-profile uncouplings.

Although Monday’s announcement was unexpected, particularly for believers in the Hollywood happy ending, rumors of marital strife have dogged the twosome for years.

It’s sad when people invest so much time in each other and it all falls apart.

We’ve seen this coming for a long time.

Nicole Richie is taking a break from The Simple Life to seek help in her own life.

The 25-year-old reality TV star is in an undisclosed private facility, her publicist exclusively tells E! News, “to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she’s not been putting on any weight.”

“She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition,” says the rep. “It is important to Nicole that she achieve this goal in a healthy way, [but] this is not a treatment for an eating disorder.”

Richie’s treatment means work on the new season of The Simple Life, which will find Richie and recently reconciled pal Paris Hilton as camp counselors, is temporarily on hold.

Get well soon, Nicole.

I must say, I am quite (non)excited about this. What about you?

Hollywood’s most high-profile engaged couple have finally set a wedding date.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will marry in Italy on Nov. 18, Cruise’s representative, Arnold Robinson, confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday. Holmes will wear a dress designed by Giorgio Armani, Robinson also confirmed.

The wedding date was reported by Us Weekly magazine on its Web site.

Holmes, 27, and Cruise, 44, became engaged in June 2005. Their daughter, Suri, was born April 18. She made her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine last month. The photo showed Suri peeking out of a jacket worn by Cruise with Holmes looking on.

Cruise and Holmes were first photographed together in Rome in April 2005. Two months later, the “Mission: Impossible” actor announced he had proposed to Holmes atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Well, now you know the details. Aren’t you glad I took out the trash?

Is there something in the water? It seems like a lot of people are getting married here lately.

Jaime Pressly may have kissed a lot of frogs on her hit NBC sitcom, but in real life she appears to have already found her prince.

Publicist Megan Pope confirmed to E! News Wednesday that the 29-year-old actress is “officially engaged” to her live-in boyfriend, Eric Calvo. The duo have been together for about a year and a half and are currently cohabitating in Los Angeles.

What a year it’s been—first an Emmy nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy, and now a proposal. Pressly, who is sharpening her comedic chops in the role of Jason Lee’s spunky ex-wife on My Name Is Earl, is also set to roll out the 2007 spring and summer collection from her fashion label J’Aime this week.

Pressly told Extra that her deejay beau (who goes by the performance name DJ Eric Cubiche) offered up a “perfect classic engagement ring” over the weekend. “I knew he was going to surprise me, and I didn’t know when,” she said. This will be the first marriage for both.

I’ve always liked Sofia Coppola. I think it’s fantastic she is having a baby!

Sofia Coppola, whose cinematic baby “Marie Antoinette” hits theaters Friday, is also expecting a little girl in real life.

The filmmaker and her boyfriend Thomas Mars are expecting a daughter, reports USA Today. Coppola is seven months pregnant.

“I’m so excited to have a little girl,” she says. So far, Coppola has been focused on promoting her film and hasn’t selected a name yet.

“We’re going to wait and see,” she says. “When you’re writing, you pick names for characters, but it’s harder in real life.”

Oh, the lifestyles of the rich an famous! American Pie Actress Tara Reid has turned to high-tech oxygen treatments to help heal the scars left by recent breast implants and liposuction.

The American Pie star has been stepping into a hyperbaric chamber at Los Angeles’ Maria De Sio Skincare centre to get rid of scars around her navel and breasts. She says, “I had to put powder on them (scars) so you couldn’t see how bad they were.”

Nothing is more beautiful than a natural woman. Good luck, Tara!

Wow, was this a shocker this week.

Sara Evans was very detailed in her divorce filings about her husband Craig Schelske. By now, most of country music and fans of Sara Evans from the ABC Reality show ‘Dancing with the Stars’ were shocked to read what she is accusing her husband of thirteen years, Craig Schelske of doing online, in person and in front of the TV.

The accusations range from adulterous affairs, pictures of him in those affairs, Internet ads asking for three-way and anal sex and being caught by one of his children watching porn on TV. It has all of the basic ick factor and may observers and some legal experts are asking why so much detail?

Sara claims that her soon-to-be-ex had an affair with the former nanny to their three children; kept photos on his computer of himself having sex with other women; was discovered by one of their children watching pornography on TV; forbade a Dancing with the Stars stylist from entering their home, declaring the man was a “sodomite”; and often threatened her, among other charges.

Something tells me this is going to get really nasty.

TV legend Farrah Fawcett is battling cancer, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

Doctors discovered a malignant tumor in her lower intestine and blasted it with radiation to shrink it, sources say.

After surgery to remove the deadly cancer, the 59-year-old former “Charlie’s Angels” star faces chemotherapy and more grueling radiation treatments.

The devastating news came after Farrah’s triumphant appearance August 27 at the Emmy Awards, when she unveiled a stunning new look during a reunion with “Angels” co-stars Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson.

I wish her nothing but the best, and hope for a very speedy recovery.

Doesn’t everyone love Carrie Underwood?

“American Idol” Carrie Underwood is the latest celebrity to appear on a poster for the Oklahoma Library Association’s “Read Y’all” literacy campaign.

Posters featuring the country singer from Checotah will be distributed free to every academic, public, school and special library in the state, said Buffy Edwards, poster coordinator for the campaign.

“I think Carrie Underwood just represents Oklahoma in such a positive manner,” Edwards said. “She’s grounded in her upbringing. She’s proud of her state. She appeals to a very wide age range.

“I think America fell in love with Carrie Underwood on ‘American Idol,’ and we’re very lucky she’s from our state.”

Carrie Underwood is a positive role model for young people, and she’s great eye candy for the rest of us. Aren’t we all lucky?

Amanda Peet starts in the new series, Studio 60, one of the best new shows this season.

Actress Amanda Peet is expecting a baby with her boyfriend, screenwriter David Benioff.

The “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” star says they plan to marry this weekend.

Peet, 34, revealed to David Letterman on the “Late Show” that she is four months pregnant.

Her condition has resulted in castmates nicknaming her “Fatty” on the set her NBC show.

Letterman said, “See, that’s not right… That’s just not right.”

She replied, “I think it’s really funny.”

Peet has appeared in the films “Something’s Gotta Give” and “Syriana.”

She previously acted with her “Studio 60″ co-star Matthew Perry in “The Whole Ten Yards.”

Benioff’s screenwriting credits include “25th Hour” and “Troy.”
